Press release

The Munk Group from Günzburg has received two awards in the ‘Bayern’s Best 50’ competition: the main prize for exceptional growth in turnover and workforce numbers, and the special sustainability prize for sustainable entrepreneurship in the areas of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG). Bavarian Minister for Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger presented the awards at Schleißheim Palace.

Every year, the Bavarian State Ministry honours the fastest-growing small and medium-sized enterprises in the Free State with the ‘Bavaria’s Best 50’ awards. The Munk Group received the main prize for its above-average growth in turnover and employment. The jury awarded the Special Sustainability Prize for a business model that combines all three ESG dimensions: resource conservation and energy efficiency on the environmental front, fair working conditions and regional roots on the social front, and responsible corporate governance as the foundation. Since its foundation in 1899, the company has manufactured exclusively in Germany – today at three sites in Günzburg and Leipheim.

“We want to still be producing access equipment in our home district of Günzburg in 125 years’ time. That is why we operate under the motto ‘Shaping the future, preserving the future’,” says Ferdinand Munk, owner and managing director of the Munk Group.

The sustainability measures are quantifiable: photovoltaic systems covering 10,000 square metres meet 40 per cent of the electricity requirement and save 460 tonnes of CO₂ per year. A wood chip heating system reduces natural gas consumption by a further 40 per cent. The family-run business employs more than 450 staff from 24 countries at its German sites.
