Safely through winter
De-icing systems and de-icing scaffolding for lorries and buses

De-icing systems for lorries and buses

With de-icing systems and de-icing scaffolding from MUNK, you protect your drivers, avoid accidents and fulfil legal obligations.

Why de-icing systems are indispensable for your vehicle fleet

Snow and ice on lorry roofs endanger road traffic. Slabs of ice come loose while driving and can hit following vehicles. The result: accidents with personal injury and damage to property.

The road traffic regulations require every driver to clear their vehicle of snow and ice before setting off. Failure to do so will result in fines. Accidents can result in criminal prosecution.

At the same time, health and safety regulations prohibit unsecured access to lorry roofs. Haulage and transport companies are faced with a dilemma: how do they fulfil their de-icing obligations without endangering their employees?

The solution: Professional de-icing systems create safe working conditions. Your employees can reach the vehicle roof safely via steps and work platforms. Snow and ice can be removed quickly - without risk to people or the company.

The legal basis

Your obligations as a vehicle owner

Road safety is a duty

  • Paragraph 1 Section 2 of the German Road Traffic Act regulates this: No road user may endanger or harm others. If a vehicle loses snow or ice while driving, this is an offence.
  • The driver is obliged to clear the vehicle of winter roof loads before setting off. This obligation applies to all commercial vehicles - lorries, buses and trailers.

Occupational safety also applies in winter

  • As a vehicle owner, you are responsible for the occupational safety of your employees. Accident prevention regulations prohibit unsecured work at height.
  • You have to provide suitable work equipment. A de-icing system fulfils this requirement. It protects your employees and secures your company legally.

Consequences of violations

Fines can be imposed for failure to de-ice. If accidents occur, the consequences increase considerably:

  • Civil liability for damage caused by falling ice
  • Recourse claims from insurance companies in the event of gross negligence
  • Criminal investigations in the event of personal injury

A de-icing system is your investment in safety and legal certainty.

The premium solution in modular design

Stationary de-icing system

For large fleets and depots

The stationary de-icing system from MUNK is the first choice for haulage companies, bus companies and vehicle depots with regular de-icing requirements. You receive a tried-and-tested standard solution or a customised system.

Choose your solution

Standard solution - ready for immediate use

The preconfigured standard system covers many typical requirements. With a platform length of 15,960 mm, it is suitable for standard articulated lorries and most buses. This complete solution can be delivered quickly and is tried and tested in use.

Technical data standard system:

  • Platform length: 15960 mm
  • Platform width: 850 mm
  • Platform height: 3000 mm
  • Total height: 4100 mm
  • Weight: 800 kg
  • Order no.: 681200

Modular design - customisable

Are your vehicles longer? Is your space limited? No problem. The modular design adapts to your requirements. You combine platform sections of 1,260 mm, 1,860 mm or 3,060 mm in length. This allows you to achieve any desired overall length. Even exceptionally long trailers can be completely covered.

The modules fit together seamlessly. You can simply extend the system if required at a later date. Your investment grows with your requirements.

Technical highlights

Comfortable 45° staircase: Access is via an inclined staircase with handrails on both sides. A self-closing safety door prevents falls. Access is comfortable and safe - even when wearing work gloves and in winter.

Non-slip work platform: Class R12 steel gratings form the walking surface. They offer maximum slip resistance in wet, snowy and icy conditions. The perforated grid allows water and meltwater to run off. Snow does not accumulate. The platform remains accessible at all times.

All-round safety railing: railing with foot and knee rail surrounds the platform all the way round. Height: 1,100 mm. Your employees work with maximum fall protection in accordance with the DIN standard.

Maintenance-free construction: Aluminium and stainless steel withstand all weather conditions. The system does not rust and requires no maintenance. It remains ready for use all year round - with no follow-up costs.

Can be used all year round

The de-icing system is not only used in winter. In summer, you can use the platform for maintenance and repair work on tarpaulins and roof structures. Your investment pays off all year round.

Standardised safety

The system fulfils the DIN EN ISO 14122-2 and -3 standards, which regulate stationary access to machinery. You receive maximum legal certainty during audits and inspections by professional associations.

Maximum load capacity

  • Platform load: 1.5 kN/m²
  • Step load: 150 kg
  • Total load: 300 kg

FAQ: De-icing systems, de-icing scaffolding, ice-free scaffolding

Common questions about de-icing systems

Which de-icing system is right for my business?

That depends on the size of your fleet and your site conditions. For large, fixed locations, we recommend the stationary modular system. The mobile scaffolding is suitable for changing locations. We will be happy to advise you personally.

Standard solution or customised configuration?

The standard system with a length of 15,960 mm covers most standard articulated lorries and buses. It is tried and tested and can be delivered quickly. If you require other lengths or have special space requirements, we can configure the system individually from the modules. Both variants offer identical quality and safety.

How long does it take to install a stationary system?

The system comes in pre-assembled modules. An assembly team needs one to two working days, depending on the length. The plug-in systems speed up assembly considerably.

Can I expand the system later?

Yes, the modular design allows extensions at any time. You order additional platform modules and add them. Your investment grows with your requirements.

Does the system require maintenance?

The aluminium and stainless steel construction is weather-resistant and corrosion-free. It does not require regular material maintenance such as painting or oiling. Nevertheless, statutory inspection obligations apply: According to the German Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV), work equipment must be inspected regularly by a competent person. You specify the inspection intervals in your risk assessment. The design standards DIN EN ISO 14122 (fixed access points) and DIN EN 1004 (mobile scaffolding) apply to de-icing systems. An annual safety inspection has proven its worth in practice. The inspection includes Visual inspection for damage, inspection of connecting elements, inspection of guardrails and steps and functional testing of moving parts. The results are documented.

Which standards do the systems fulfil?

The stationary systems fulfil DIN EN ISO 14122-2 and -3. The mobile scaffolding complies with DIN EN 1004-1. All products guarantee the highest level of occupational safety.

Can I use the system in summer?

Yes, the platforms are ideal for maintenance and repair work on tarpaulins, superstructures and roof structures. Your investment pays off all year round.

How quickly can you deliver?

We deliver mobile scaffolding in 3-5 working days. Stationary systems take 4-6 weeks depending on the configuration. Contact us for current delivery times.

Do you also offer an assembly service?

Yes, MUNK Service will professionally install your de-icing system. Our qualified fitters know every detail of the design. They install the system in accordance with standards and ready for operation. The installation service includes Transport of the pre-assembled components, professional assembly on site, alignment and fastening as well as a final functional test. You receive the system ready for use. Talk to us about the installation service when you enquire. We will provide you with a complete quotation including installation.
