Next step towards the future

Munk Group puts new production and sawing centre into operation

Press release

Another milestone for the "Future Munk" project: the family-owned Munk Group has now commissioned a new production and sawing centre for the Munk Günzburger Steigtechnik division at the company's headquarters in Günzburg. With the start of production in the 5,000 m2 production hall, the company has completed two investments with a total volume of 20 million euros within the past two years. In the summer of 2021, the Munk Group had opened the new location for its Munk rescue technology division in neighbouring Leipheim.

"I am very pleased that we can now expand capacity for our mainstay, Munk Günzburger Steigtechnik, as planned. With the new production and sawing centre, we are optimising the complete workflow in manufacturing. In view of the full order books and our strong growth, this is more important than ever," explains Ferdinand Munk, the owner and managing director of the Munk Group.

A modern production hall with a sawing centre, a state-of-the-art semi-automated conveyor system for material logistics and spacious social rooms have been built on an area of 5,000 m2. The hall roof will be equipped with a photovoltaic system on an area of more than 3,200 m2, which will supply an output of 450 kwP. "We have planned this with absolute foresight and, as you can see in the current situation, it is of enormous importance to generate electricity and energy requirements from our own resources as well and to make ourselves as independent as possible. At the end of the year, we will also put a wood chip plant into operation in order to become more self-sufficient in terms of heating as well," says Munk.

Sustainable concept

The new building on the company premises in Günzburg is thus an important mosaic stone in the company's sustainability concept, which envisages consistent energy-saving production and the responsible use of resources. According to Munk, the delivery area for trucks - which is designed like a sluice - was consciously designed to save energy and is a further building block in this regard.

The optimisation of the material and production processes that has now been realised is based on a joint scientific project with Augsburg University of Applied Sciences. "Here we have gained interesting optimisation potential and I am very pleased that we can now implement this accordingly," explains Ferdinand Munk. The Munk Group's new production hall is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery such as a laser cutting machine, a partially automated racking system and paternoster racking. "This gives us a big plus in terms of efficiency, as it optimises the manufacturing processes to the maximum and increases our productivity. The exterior design of the hall not only offers additional parking areas with sustainable planting, but also dimmable and thus energy-saving and insect-friendly lighting.

Potential for restructuring

For the Munk Group, the opening of the new production and sawing centre is also the start of a restructuring of production. "We are gaining new capacity on the site as a result and can now also optimise processes in the areas and departments that have become vacant. This will be another exciting project," explains Ferdinand Munk.

The Munk Group then immediately used the day of the official opening to celebrate the company's employee party. "This was a great opportunity to thank our team for what we have achieved together. It was really nice that we could finally get together again socially," says Ferdinand Munk.
