Platform Types Compared
Choose by where you work. Two designs cover the entire range.
Vertical mast lifts
The platform rises along a sturdy vertical mast – a compact low-level access work platform in its purest form. This design is the lightest and most compact in the range. It fits into standard passenger lifts and through narrow door frames. The manual versions need no battery and are ready to use straight away.
Scissor lifts
A robust scissor mechanism raises the platform vertically. That gives you a generous deck and a high load capacity. Two people can work safely, heavy tools included. With the self-propelled models, you drive straight from the platform.
How to Choose the Right Model
Four criteria take purchasing and safety teams straight to the right choice.
- Floor loading: Heavy rental machines often damage sensitive floors. Our lightest models start at 275 kg and spread the load gently.
- Indoors or outdoors: For unprotected outdoor use, choose the FlexxLift 5.0 SDX. It withstands standardised wind loads.
- Drive: Manual models run without power and need little maintenance. Electric drives ease the work during continuous use.
- Ergonomics: Every new model has an open frame with no cross-braces. That lowers the risk of injury when loading and unloading.
EN 280 Made Simple
EN 280 classifies mobile aerial work platforms. Two details are all you need in practice:
- Group A means a purely vertical lift, with the platform staying above its footprint.
- Type 1 to 3 tells you whether and how you may drive – Type 1 only when lowered, Type 3 also when raised, straight from the platform.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a scissor lift the same as a vehicle lift?
No. A scissor lift raises people and material to a work platform. A vehicle lift raises cars in the workshop. Both use a scissor mechanism, but they serve completely different purposes.
Who is allowed to operate an aerial work platform?
The same principle applies across Europe: only suitable, instructed people aged 18 or over may operate an aerial work platform. Operators must be at least 18 and have both machine-specific familiarisation and formal training. The employer trains them on the relevant machine category, confirms their fitness and formally authorises them. What the proof is called varies from country to country. How often does the platform need inspecting?
Once a year by a competent person, in line with national rules. Some countries require shorter intervals for certain machines – our guide lists them by country.
How much does a FlexxLift platform weigh?
Between 275 and 500 kg, depending on the model. That makes FlexxLift one of the lightest platforms in its height class.
Will the platform fit in a passenger lift?
Yes. The vertical mast models are designed for standard lifts and narrow doors.
Is there an explosion-protected model?
